It's never easy being a Mama trying to juggle a full-time job with a family life, let alone working in the medical industry. We totally get it, it can be tough.
The key is to focus on a plan and get organized. Read on for tips on how you get closer to reaching an ideal work-life balance.
1. Stop the Guilt
Focus on the priorities that are at the moment. You are NOT alone. Accept that there will be good and bad days. Find someone who is in the same situation, you won't need to look very far ;)
2. Find Quality Childcare
A good childcare provider should have extensive experience, excellent references, and a record to prove it.
3. Make Mornings a Breeze
Avoid starting the day on a frazzled note by getting organized the night before. Pack the lunches, lay out the clothes the night before (like your AM/PM Medical Scrubs) so you’re not scrambling. Check over your to-do list.
4. Create & Organize a Family Calendar
Speaking of to-do lists, a large, calendar (perhaps in the kitchen) can help keep all those playdates, appointments, meetings etc on track. Get motivated and inspired by reading this earlier post.
5. Communicate with Your Employer
Do your homework if other employees have flexible arrangements and use this information to your advantage when speaking to your supervisor and HR manager. try to be as open and honest as possible. Be prepared to present alternative solutions, such as a trial period.
6. Stay in Touch During the Day
On your break, do a quick check-in. Call or text your child; hearing her can help you get through a rough day, and she'll be comforted to know you're near.
7. Limit Distractions & Time Wasters
This is a big one. Be disciplined and set time limits when checking email or making phone calls, things you can do when the kids are sleeping. Cut back on watching TV to once a week to maximize time with your partner during the evenings. Try to avoid multitasking, especially when spending time with the kids. At your workplace, try to avoid wasting time.
8. Create Special Family Activities
Create activities that regularly fit into your schedule so everyone knows what to expect and what to look forward to – like Taco Tuesday or Pizza Friday or an outdoor game.
9. Spend Time with Your Partner
Enjoy date nights on the town or in your own home. They don’t have to be expensive, the goal is to spend quality time together and nurturing your relationship.
10. Pamper Yourself
Yes, Mama! We saved the best tip for last. A refreshing break will help you recharge while taking care of personal needs. Lose yourself in a book, take a bubble bath, or go to a yoga class. Ahhhh!
